A CRUISE DOWN THE OREGON COAST

When my family and I typically drove out to the Oregon coast we normally went to Cannon Beach, only about 65-70 minutes away, but today we decided to start exploring other parts of the coast and when we approached Cannon Beach we decided to just continue driving south to see what we could find. Today’s blog is a series of photos that were taken as we drove roughly one to two hours south of Cannon Beach and back. This particular photo is out of chronological order as it was the last photo I took of the day as we were driving back and just pulled over on a rocky beach for me to catch the sunset as it disappeared. What I love about this photo is the reflections in the small, shallows pool, and how turbulent the water was that evening as it was quite windy. Aside from that I think the colors and color contrast between the rocks, water and sky speak for themselves.

To finish off the day we made two more stops, one to capture the photo two spots above which was taken from another side of the road stop where you could see waves crashing in to a cliffside. And two, to capture the photo above right after the sun had set and blue hour was taking shape. It was quite a beautiful sight, the sun had just set, it was a bit windy so the waves were coming in creating a foamy crash against the rocks and the rocks themselves had a black and gray tint to them creating an out of this world look. We wrapped up the day and headed home inspired to take more trips down the coast in the future. Till next time…

As we continued down the coast we came across many beautiful rest stops and scenic pullouts that had views of the ocean and great big cliffs. At one of the stops I caught this view and decided to take a few photos, I especially liked the mini island off in the distance. Shortly after this shot I decided to pull out my 70-200mm F2.8 G Master OSS lens to see what I could find with more reach and we got back in the car and continued on.

At the next pull out I took a few pictures at 200mm that I wasn’t super happy with because of the lighting and framing that I could get, I was limited by the short cliff I was standing on and the barrier that was around it. After that I walked down a few more feet and saw this tree just chilling on top of a rock and it reminded me of the movie, Karate Kid, more specifically the logo that Mr. Miyagi had on his and Daniel’s headbands and I decided to shoot it.
