CAPE DISAPPOINTMENT
As you drive along state route 101, up the Oregon coast leaving Astoria and crossing the Oregon-Washington border, you enter the city of Ilwaco on the Long Beach Peninsula. At first you are rewarded with a really cool, long and rather giant bridge that crosses the border, aka the Columbia river and then you drive along the Washington coastline until you get to the city of Ilwaco and eventually at the very edge of land (aka the coast) you come up on Cape Disappointment. Cape Disappointment more or less mirrors the location of Fort Stevens, just on the Washington side rather than the Oregon side, well that and it is a bit more west as it sticks out in to the Pacific more. Anyway, enough of the geography lesson, Cape Disappointment is mostly known for its beautiful light house, but outside of that I found this house (one of I think 3-4 similar looking structures) rather interesting. I found it interesting for two reasons, the first being that I couldn’t figure out what it was for, it looked like it could have been a historic house of sorts, but there were multiple and it almost looked like a possible rental. And the second reason, because it just looked cool with its red roof and rest of its color scheme and how it contrasted to the dark skies and green forest around it. Overall I ended up fairly happy with how this photo and its edit turned out.
Not to be funny or anything but Cape Disappointment almost ended up being a complete disappointment as the weather just would not cooperate! It was cold, it was wet and it was down right windy! I mean having a hard time not having camera shake windy! We managed to suck it up for only about an hour and I only managed to snap a hand full of photos (between all of the people we were trying to distance from and the bad weather) and all I walked away with was this photo and the one other. But, I can’t complain as I am really happy with the way this photo turned out. From the colors, to the sky and simply because I just love shooting lighthouses. Till next time…
